How to make Google Meet and Zoom louder

On a call, the quiet person is usually the problem — a laptop microphone across the room, or a low input level on their side. You can't fix their mic, but you can make the call louder on yours.

Check the call's own settings

1. Google Meet: click the three dots → Settings → Audio, choose the right Speakers, and press Test.
2. Zoom in the browser: open the audio menu next to the microphone button and check the speaker selection and volume.
3. Make sure Chrome isn't turned down in your system's volume mixer.

Boost the call's tab

1. Join the call in Chrome (Google Meet, or Zoom's web client).
2. Click the SoundBooster Chrome extension and start with 150% or 200%.
3. Open Advanced controls and choose the Quiet dialogue profile to make voices clearer.

SoundBooster only changes what you hear from that tab. It never records the call and never touches your microphone, so the other people won't notice anything.

Using Zoom's desktop app?

Browser extensions can't reach desktop apps. Either join from the browser instead, or raise the level with your system's loudness features (see how to make your laptop louder).

Wear headphones if you boost a lot

At high boost, loud speakers can leak back into your own microphone and cause echo for everyone else. Headphones avoid that completely.
