How to boost volume above 100% in Chrome

Chrome plays every tab at the level the website sends it, and your computer's volume can only turn that down — never up. So when a video, stream or call is quiet at 100%, there's nothing left to turn up. A volume booster extension fixes that by amplifying the tab's audio before it reaches your speakers.

First, check the settings you already have

1. The website's own player. YouTube, Twitch and most players have their own volume slider. Make sure it's at maximum.
2. Your system volume. On Windows, open the Volume mixer (right-click the speaker icon) and check that Chrome itself isn't turned down. On a Mac, check the menu bar volume and the output device in System Settings → Sound.
3. The right output. Quiet sound is sometimes just the wrong device — a monitor's built-in speakers instead of your headphones, for example.

Boost a tab above 100% with SoundBooster

1. Install the SoundBooster Chrome extension and pin it to your toolbar (click the puzzle icon, then the pin).
2. Go to the tab that's too quiet and start the audio.
3. Click SoundBooster and pick a preset — 150%, 200%, 300%, 400% — or drag the slider up to the maximum of 600%.

How loud is 600%?

The percentage multiplies the audio signal: 200% is +6 dB, 300% is about +9.5 dB and 600% is about +15.6 dB. Our ears hear roughly +10 dB as “twice as loud”, so 600% sounds close to three times louder. That's a lot — raise it gradually, especially on headphones.

Where it can't help

• Chrome's own pages (settings, the Web Store) — Chrome doesn't let extensions capture them.
• Desktop apps like Spotify or Zoom's app. The extension boosts browser tabs; use the web versions instead.
• Tabs whose audio Chrome won't let extensions capture. SoundBooster tells you when that happens rather than failing silently.
